Jacob was struck with with audio upgrade bug at a very young age. He made his first audio purchase at age 8, after saving his $2/week allowance for more than a year. Immediately after acquiring that beloved Casio boombox, he began saving for his first “real” stereo, which he bought at age 12. In high school, he installed a $650 stereo into his $900 car. His college dorm room was dominated by a large, 5.1-channel surround sound system. As a kid in North Carolina, he listened to the Beatles and the Beach Boys with his dad, to James Taylor and Judy Collins with his mom, and (he’s not ashamed to say) to New Kids On The Block with his sisters. Jacob’s brother Dan still uses the Sony speakers that Jacob bought at age 12, though Jacob continues to encourage him to upgrade.

Jacob moved to California and attended UC Berkeley, where he studied English, sang in an a cappella group, and played percussion in both the symphonic and marching bands. Jacob now lives in Los Angeles, where he has worked as a copywriter, an English tutor, and a book production coordinator for the Los Angeles Times. He enjoys baking, and he frequently attends concerts at a venue called Largo at the Coronet, which boasts the best music and the least comfortable seats in LA.
