Sonus faber Designs Audio for Lamborghini Revuelto

Last August's Monterey Car Week was one of the most anticipated automobile events in the country for 2024. People came from all over the world to see some of the most elegant (and expensive) automobiles.. This year, Sonus faber was prominently featured within the exclusive Lamborghini Villa, showcasing the company’s state-of-the-art audio system in the new Lamborghini Revuelto. Now available as an optional spec on the Revuelto, the new custom-designed Sonus faber audio system features “Italian artistry, high-quality craftsmanship, and a rich tradition of excellence,” along with some advanced technology that makes the system work inside the Revuelto’s beautiful but compact cabin space.

Lambo speaker layout

The system was reportedly born out of the joint efforts of Sonus faber’s R&D and Design departments and Lamborghini Centro Stile. It marks the first collaboration between the two Italian brands, though it is not Sonus faber’s first time designing an automotive audio system for a high-end sports car. You can also find Sonus faber audio inside the Maserati MC20, the Maserati Granturismo, and even the multi-million-dollar Pagani Huayra. (And while you’re at it, you can also buy an Italian-built yacht with Sonus faber speakers onboard. See our article Sonus faber and McIntosh Set Sail with Wally Yachts.)

The collaboration with Lamborghini is an extremely important milestone for Sonus faber, further expanding the brand into the luxury car segment. Working on the Revuelto has been exhilarating, yet challenging, given the cabin’s restrictions and the sound of their incredible V12 behind the seats. Thanks to the joint work between the teams in Sant ’Agata and Vicenza, the journey has been remarkable, and we hope to transfer our passion at Sonus faber to every Revuelto customer. In fact, the system we engineered and tuned fully embodies world-famous Sonus faber’s natural sound. We are honored and grateful for the trust that Lamborghini extended to us on this project.

The Sonus faber Audio System

Lambo Interior

One of the hallmarks of Lamborghini as a brand is the ability of its cars to seamlessly blend bold, elegant style with raw power on the road. Sonus faber says that the audio system developed for the Revuelto also manages to capture this impressive duality, delivering “nuanced, gentle melodies and delicate turns, as well as thunderous bass and raw power, with equal finesse.” The system features just seven speakers, which may not sound like a lot if you’re used to seeing the Dolby Atmos systems inside large luxury sedans like the Lucid Air or Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, with its 31-speaker Burmester system. But the inside of a Lamborghini is a significantly smaller space, so Sonus faber decided to focus on quality over quantity. The team reportedly developed a new natural fiber composite cone material, as well as an exclusive phase plug design specifically for this new system, with each element “chosen to enhance the in-car experience and… meticulously crafted to deliver Sonus faber’s unique natural sound,” according to the company. The newly-developed Class D amplifier works alongside a very powerful DSP to ensure “smooth transitions between electrical signals and acoustical tones.” (I have no idea what that is supposed to mean, but sometimes you just have to hand it to the marketing writers when they come up with a colorful turn of phrase.) The amp delivers up to 750 watts of total power.

Lambo Sonus faber center channel

The system features a 3.15-inch center-channel speaker designed to provide a locked-in center image for both the driver and passenger (or “pilot and co-pilot,” as the marketing material refers to them). This speaker also helps to minimize space utilization on the dash by featuring an ultra-thin drive unit with a “reversed structure,” in which the neodymium magnet is placed strategically in the middle of the unit. This “neodymium engine” not only reduces the drive unit’s overall dimensions, but also enhances sound clarity by playing a dual role as a phase plug, according to Sonus faber. The conical shape at the center of the driver is said to contribute to the speaker’s wide bandwidth, ranging from 100Hz to 20kHz.

Lambo Sonus faber 2-way door speaker

The surround channels are also reproduced by 3.15-inch full-range drivers located directly behind each seat. These speakers are designed to enrich the sound experience by deepening the soundstage and “enveloping occupants within an authentic acoustic environment.” Each door contains a two-way speaker system with a 6.3-inch mid-woofer and a 1-inch tweeter. The mid-woofer can reportedly play from 30Hz all the way up to 15kHz (though it’s probably crossed over much lower than that). It is reportedly an unusual design capable of “extensive internal movement,” allowing it to “achieve prolonged vibration and reproduce high-fidelity sound.” Again, a conical-shaped dust cap is deployed, contributing to “the delivery of more defined sound.” The 1-inch NanoSilk dome tweeter has a bandwidth of 1.2kHz to 30kHz, and promises high frequencies that are “very precise, but never edgy or sharp.”

The Lamborghini Revuelto offers the peak of the emotions of a super sports car and the inclusion of the Sonus faber audio system elevates this to an unparalleled experience. The Sonus faber audio system for the Lamborghini Revuelto combines technology, design, and performance, as well as the Made-in-Italy trademark, reflecting the heritage of both our brands and delivering our clients with a uniquely tuned in-car audio immersion.
