THX Finds A New CEO In A-Volute Founder Tuyen Pham
THX is best known to home theater enthusiasts for its THX Certification standards, which guarantee that certified gear will deliver performance according to a number of parameters, requiring rigorous testing. In fact, THX Certification was just inducted into the CEDIA Product Hall of Fame at the 2024 CEDIA Expo. But the company co-founded by George Lucas is no one-trick pony. As we discussed in a THX Virtual Press Event a few years back, the company has developed its own THX Spatial Audio technology (which you can check out for yourself via Qobuz, using any headphones). THX has also developed THX Achromatic Audio Amplifier (THX AAA), which is billed as the world’s most linear amplifier technology for headphones and in-vehicle audio systems. We’ve seen this technology used to great effect in products from a variety of well-known manufacturers, from Bluesound to Benchmark. In recent years THX has branched out into physical products, starting with its $199 Onyx, a dongle-style DAC and headphone amplifier using THX AAA technology. THX is also manufacturing Ultra High Speed HDMI cables certified to deliver high bandwidth and full HDMI 2.1b functionality. Now, with an aim to further increase the quality and reach of THX’s technologies and services, the company has announced a new Chief Executive Officer, Tuyen Pham. Pham will “serve at the helm of the forty-year global leader in bringing quality audio and video entertainment experiences to movie goers, gamers, music lovers, and audiophiles alike,” according to a post on the THX company blog.
Pham is an engineer who spent the last two decades serving as the founder and CEO of A-Volute, an immersive audio technology innovator that became a leader in its sector. THX says that his advanced expertise in everything from technology to product development will be a boon to the company. During the last 20 years, he grew A-Volute from a small startup to a well-known audio solution worldwide, “powering millions of gaming PC and headsets every year because of its innovation in 3D sound algorithms within Nahimic, a high-definition audio software that boosts MSI computer audio and voice performance,” according to the THX blog.
I am thrilled to join THX and apply my experience to take the company to the next level. While I have a keen focus on innovation, I also value the THX partner network and will strive for increased value-add as we leverage the THX brand recognition. At A-Volute we went from a small start-up with big dreams, to a worldwide leader in 3D audio APO for gaming laptops. My THX vision is to empower even more and greater entertainment experiences with the THX technologies and services.

THX also says that, thanks to his experience at A-Volute, Pham has a deep knowledge of the changing landscape of media playback and the needs of a variety of other popular consumer electronics brands, including Asus, Dell, Razer, Alienware, Lenovo, and Huawei. Pham also has experience raising financial capital, setting up offices across multiple countries, and managing cultural differences both among employees, and between a company and its customers. These skills are key to growing a worldwide technology company in today’s marketplace. A-Volute was acquired by the Danish peripherals and gaming headset manufacturer SteelSeries in 2020 for an undisclosed sum.
My background in the immersive audio innovation sector affords me the ability to deeply understand technology, marketing, sales, users-needs, and finance. This is a multidisciplinary mindset that enables me to make strategic and effective links between these subjects at the same time. My other characteristic is a love of innovation. I will always prefer to push something new to the market instead of sticking only to the launch of proven technology. Thus, gaining market feedback becomes a key to success. At THX, coupling innovation with the right dose of marketing to explain the user benefits, is a challenge I look forward accomplishing to rebuild the world’s next most famous brand in audio and video.
