Onkyo PA-MC5500 9 Channel THX Amplifier First Look [0.13] by tom,September 12, 2010 21:00
When Onkyo released their PR-SC5508 THX Certified Processor, they didn't have to ask someone to build them an amp, they just ported over the THX Certified PA-MC5500 from the UK. The PA-MC5500 has nine channels of amplification rated at 150 watts each at 8 ohms driving a single channel into 1kHz. It may easy for some to dismiss the PA-MC5500 based on its less-than-rigorous power ratings. Don't be dissuaded. At a paltry $1699 MSRP (and a street price sure to be less), the PA-MC5500 has plenty of power for most systems. Add to that the convenience of having all nine channels in a single box, the piece of mind that THX certification brings and the matching aesthetics to the new PR-SC5508 and you've got more than one consumer interested.
Onkyo TX-NR1008 9.2 Channel Networked A/V Receiver Preview [0.13] by david,August 02, 2010 03:20
Third down the line in the refresh Onkyo has made to its line up of receivers is the new TX-NR1008 networked model, updating the TX-NR1007. Although a downgrade in the amplifier design to a single transformer, the TX-NR1008 still clocks in at a hefty 41 lbs and it retains nearly all of the functionality provided by the more expensive TX-NR5008 and TX-NR3008 models. The TX-NR1008 is a 9.2 channel receiver that features a THX Certified Select 2 Plus amplifier section capable of making 135 watts at 8 ohms over 20 Hz to 20 kHz. The power supply is downgraded from the higher models to a single EI transformer, but the model does feature block construction that otherwise isolates the processing functionality from the power amplifier section.
Onkyo TX-NR708 Networked AV Receiver Preview [0.13] by david,August 09, 2010 03:55
Newly upgraded to include networked functionality from the preceding TX-SR707, the TX-NR708 is fifth in Onkyo's refresh to its line up of receivers. The TX-NR708 is a 7.2 channel receiver that features a THX Certified Select 2 Plus amplifier section rated for 110 watts at 8 ohms from 20 Hz to 20 kHz. While losing some functionality from the upper models, the TX-NR708 still appears to be a capable mid-range receiver that is packed with features.
$4,000 Two-Channel Stereo Recommended System [0.13] by smunz,May 22, 2014 21:00
If your first impression after reading our $10,000 two channel system recommendations was "maybe when I hit the lotto", never fear, the Audioholics have you covered. This time around, we drop the price down to the $4,000 mark, with an aim to retain as much performance as possible. Needless to say, there are a few compromises; niceties like dual SB13-Ultras and $1,200 CD/SACD players aren't happening on this budget. However, no apologies need to made for the end performance of the resulting system. This is one killer combo that will provide many fine years of service with upgrade paths to the future.
$1000 Two-Channel Stereo Recommended System [0.13] by tom,May 21, 2014 10:00
Trying to be an Audioholic when you have a cash flow problem can be a challenge. But we all started somewhere and we aren't so far removed from those heady days of college that we can't remember what it was like to scrape together all your change to buy a new speaker or component. We asked ourselves a question - "If we only had a grand and wanted to buy a brand new $1000 stereo system, what would we get?" Here is the answer.
Onkyo HT-RC260 7.2 Channel Home Theater Receiver Preview [0.13] by tom,October 12, 2010 01:05
For $500 (a full $350 less than the HT-RC270), the Onkyo HT-RC260 packs in a lot of features. What are you missing are a few speaker connection points to make switching configurations easier, an input or two, analogue pre-ins and pre-outs, THX certification, and all of the network features. What you get is the same amp section, Faroudja DCDI Cinema video processing, a ton of HDMI 1.4a inputs, dual subwoofer outputs, and all the latest audio processing. If you aren't that interesting in networking and streaming, you can save a cool $350 by going with the HT-RC260 over the 270. That's two pairs of shutter glasses and a 3D Blu-ray! For some that is money well saved.

You asked for it, and now you have it. The new AVENTAGE RX-A3010 from Yamaha has got a lot of people asking, "How does it stack up?" Well, we'll tell you. We took the top offerings in the $2000 price point from Denon (AVR-4311CI) and Onkyo (TX-NR3008) and weighed them up. While we didn't really find any of them lacking, we're sure you have an opinion on them.
