APC Ships New S-Series HT Power Conditioners with Battery Backup
WEST KINGSTON, RI - May 25, 2004 - American Power Conversion (APC) today announced availability of their new S-line of power conditioning battery backup models designed exclusively for the high performance home audio/video (A/V) and custom electronic installer market. The new APC S10 and S15 A/V Power Conditioners with Battery Backup help eliminate power anomalies as a threat to component hardware, A/V signal integrity, and system availability. Unstable power can destroy component power supplies, negatively impact sound and video quality as well as result in lost pre-sets, damaged hard drives, and missed digital video recordings (DVRs). APC's new S10 and S15 A/V Power Conditioners with Battery Backup are the only single A/V power protection units able to defend a system against all these threats.
"APC is very excited to bring its legendary power engineering expertise to the world of high performance audio and video," said Joe Loberti, general manager of APC's Consumer Networks Solutions Group. "With the increasing presence of hard drives, Internet connections, satellite dishes, and DVRs, we are seeing growing customer demand for battery backup units in home theaters. After researching and talking to high performance A/V installers, we designed this unit from the ground up to meet their unique needs and expectations. Much of the S10 and S15's design and functionality is tuned specifically for A/V environments. Some of these A/V features include component-specific noise filtering banks, pure sine wave battery power, sequenced turn on/off functionality, inductor-less filtering for high current components, DC Voltage triggering, LED/display screen dimming, and a high quality fit and brushed aluminum finish."
Both the S10 and S15 feature a total of twelve surge-protected and filtered outlets with battery backup power ensuring complete protection for all components. Six of these outlets have EMI/RFI noise filtering for digital devices such as HDTV monitors, DVR, and DVD players. They also offer two analog, two video, and two high current (amplifier, subwoofer) filtered outlets. For those who live in places where electrical noise and radio frequency interference is severe enough to affect picture and sound quality, APC can improve the user's cinematic experience by allowing the equipment to perform to its maximum capabilities. Each model features automatic voltage regulation (AVR) that eliminates voltage fluctuations (i.e. brownouts, sags, over-voltages) as a source of A/V signal degradation. The battery backup power units prevent blackouts and other electrical transients from interrupting the A/V system. Lost pre-sets, missed DVR recordings and hard drive data corruption now can be avoided. Users can add extra battery packs to the S15 model to provide even more hours of battery runtime enabling the user to finish a movie or pay-per-view event when the power is out for an extended period of time. The S15 model also differs from theS10 in that it offers a higher power capacity for larger systems.
Because of APC's world-class surge protection design and high-quality construction, these new Power Conditioners with Battery Backup include an Equipment Protection Policy (EPP). If properly connected equipment is damaged due to the failure of APC's S10 or S15, APC will pay to repair or replace that equipment regardless of cost (see policy for details). Unlike typical homeowner's insurance policies, APC's EPP does not require paying premiums and is good for life. Both models also come standard with a two-year product warranty that includes the battery.
The S10 and S15 are available from select dealers in North America. The S10 model will have an estimated resale price of $1,299, while the S15 model will be offered for $1,499. The extra battery pack will carry an estimated resale price of $499.
