2018 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) Coverage
We kicked off the new year by covering the 2018 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) which is held annually in Las Vegas, Nevada. Our own Marshall Guthrie was back on the showfloor on a mission to seek out the latest AV electronics and cover them for Audioholics.
What was the theme this year at CES 2018? UHD OLED Display solutions sporting Dolby Vision (Sony and LG) and QLED displays by Samsung supporting rival standard HDR10+ designed to help Samsung avoid paying Dolby royalty fees. He investigated what the latest HDMI 2.1 spec has in store for future products and what manufacturers will be supporting it this year with their new product releases.
Marshall checked out the latest AV receivers and Pre/Pros that break the 7.1.4 Immersive Surround Sound speaker barrier at prices that won't cause you to take out a carloan to afford. Can't do a discrete multi-channel speaker system? Well, there are plenty of "high-end" soundbar solutions now that cost as much as an entire theater system and try to close the gap in performance with discrete speaker systems. Marshall heard the best of the best and gave us listening impressions from the Nakamichi shootout and the new Sennheiser (yes, that's not a typo) super soundbar ($3k MSRP).
CES 2018: Best Sound Bars Comparison
He also explored the ever expanding market of smart powered loudspeakers that not only allow you to stream music to but, offer high fidelity sound as well. Could this spell the end of the conventional passive loudspeaker system?
Check out all of our great product coverage here and on our Facebook and Instagram pages.
Keep checking back for more highlights of the show in the YouTube Video overviews from Gene and Marshall (coming soon).
