Planar DLP Projectors

As a next step in its strategic plan to deliver innovative products to specialty display markets, Planar Systems intro'd a line of high-performance projectors for the specialty home theater market. The company's new line includes six very well-positioned models, ranging from native 480p through native high-definition 1080p resolution.

Planar is well known in the display industry - just not the home theater/custom installer industry. Their years of expertise extends to military and medical use (think contrast-sensitive displays) as well as industrial product display integration (ever see an LCD display on a gas pump - that's likely a Planar display). Now they are entering the home theater market with a vengeance and seem to be making very good choices with their initial offerings.

Planar's six new home theater projectors are designed to deliver top quality images and incorporate sleek industrial designs, up-to-date features and the latest technology to address every level of high-end customer needs:

  • [IMGP4391] Planar PD8110 - Delivers a native 1920 x 1080 full HD resolution using a DLP 0.95 DC3 1080p chip, which produced crisp and colorful images in the demo we witnessed at the booth. The addition of horizontal and vertical lens shift, short throw lens, 1200 lumens and an astonishing 8000:1 contrast ratio estimated at $9,999 makes Planar's PD8110 the ultimate home cinema performance projector.
  • Planar PD7150 - Combines the high-performance DLP 0.8 DC3 chip with horizontal and vertical lens shift, and bright 1000-lumens. The $5,999 Planar PD7150 produces a sharp 5000:1 contrast ratio.
  • Planar PD7130 - The native 720p PD7130 is built using DLP 0.65 DC3 technology to deliver a 4500:1 contrast ratio. Priced at $3,999, the Planar PD7130 combines 900 lumens with installation features, such as horizontal and vertical lens shift.
  • Planar PD7060 - The Planar PD7060 720p projector utilizes a DLP 0.65 DC3 chip, which produces a 3500:1 contrast ratio with 1000 lumens. Priced at $2,999.
  • Planar PD7010 - The Planar PD7010 is a 1000-lumen projector built on a DLP 0.65 DC2 720p technology with a 2500:1 contrast ratio. MSRP is $1,999.
  • Planar PD4010 - Planar's PD4010 combines a DLP 0.55 DC2 technology with 900 lumens brightness to bring 480p resolution with an impressive 2500:1 contrast ratio for only $1,299.
