Yamaha RX-V2500 Receiver Review
[0.18]
by clint,November 01, 2004 20:00
- The Yamaha RX-V2500 receiver is, quite possibly, the most amazing receiver you will find for just over $1000. With a fairly accurate YPAO system and room corrective EQ that doesn't sound half bad, this is a receiver to be reckoned with - and you can bet other manufacturers are watching. Yamaha has consistently provided improvements to its lineups over the years, but since 2003 they have been on a mission - and technological progress and excellence appears to be their goal. As we concern ourselves more and more with room acoustics and technology that makes it easy to setup and manage our home theater systems, products that incorporate technologies like Yamaha's GUI and YPAO systems are imperative. And what's more, they are going to be expected. We're happy that there are a few leading companies out there bringing these technologies home and daring the market as a whole to keep up.

[0.18]
by david,October 31, 2006 10:25
- The JL Audio has produced a very serious subwoofer in the Fathom f112, the smallest sibling in their home audio line.. This is a powerful sub capable of prodigious deep bass output. Make no mistake; if you have loose objects in the house, this sub will locate them and point them out. Also, be prepared to find interior partition walls complaining into adjacent rooms. For the best possible listening experience, find all loose items and secure them. For those who have not experienced a subwoofer capable of generating bass to the limits of human hearing, one with substantial output capabilities down into the subsonic range, the JL Fathom f112 with acquaint you nicely. Add this sub to your auditioning shopping list if you are after ultra high performance, reasonable box size and cost.

3D Immersive Surround Formats and Loudspeaker Layouts
[0.18]
by Tony Verkuijl,January 28, 2015 09:00
- With Dolby Atmos, Auro-3D and DTS:X upon us, why has there been no universally accepted speaker layout proposed to accommodate all three competing Immersive Surround formats? The “classic 11.2” configuration originally introduced by Yamaha's flagship RX-Z11 AV Receiver back in 2007 mentioned in the article was NOT proposed, which surprises, because one can imagine this configuration to get closer to the “ideal” configuration for all three formats and certainly with MUCH better results than bouncing sound off the ceiling via Dolby-Enabled speakers. For those willing and able to go beyond 7.1. we propose a universal 11.2 speaker layout to ease compatibility and ensure constantly good performance for ALL formats and all seated locations in your home theater.

Human Hearing - Distortion Audibility Part 3
[0.17]
by mark,April 22, 2005 20:00
- Distortion. Present in every electro-mechanical-acoustical transducer ever built, yet infrequently does one find information (let alone useful information) that describe the type and degree of distortion presented by the transducer. Head out on the Internet and corral a good sized collection of loudspeaker driver spec sheets and you'll find that not many will offer much guidance where it comes to sizing up candidates for your next loudspeaker system design. That is, if you include distortion figures amongst the criteria used in rendering your component purchase decisions. What to do?

Panasonic's 200-ft LED Video Screen Reviewed at Charlotte!
[0.17]
by clint,May 23, 2011 15:30
- While Panasonic debuted its 200-foot wide LED display at a special event at the Charlotte Motor Speedway, we anted a closer look. In fact, letting the enormous screen get broken in by Dale Earnhardt, Jr with an iRacing simulation simply didn't do it justice. We wanted to see it for ourselves. When the opportunity arose to see it live at the NASCAR All-Star Race just 7 days later, I jumped at the chance to behold it in all its glory. During the Friday night NASCAR Education Lottery 200 truck event (which featured a race around the track with Fords, Chevy's and Toyota Tundras galore) the screen was only used with a moving background and an 80-foot (or so) image taking up residence in an inset position. The moving background was actually of the screen under construction - a simulation of it, in any case. But on Saturday evening, the screen opened up completely for the All-Star Race (and the 20-lap Sprint Showdown which preceded it). While the Sprint All-Star Race was incredibly boring, the presence of a 200-foot video display most certainly was NOT.
