- We were surprised (OK, not really) to discover that cloning has made its presence in Digital Preamp Processors. These processors were originally co-developed by East Tech and Cirrus Logic for Outlaw Audio for OEM purposes to later sell to Audio Hardware Manufacturers with customized chassis, faceplates and logos to accompany them of course. Eastern Tech in an Asian OEM which manufacturers the design and specifications of these processors. The DSP is CD4932-63L which provides decoding for Dolby Prologic II, and all the varieties of Dolby Digital, and DTS including EX, and DTS Neo:6 and Cirrus Logic’s own Extra Surround as well as their Triple Crossover.

- Big news in the audio world this week. In a move that took everyone by surprise - at least those not in the know - Indianapolis high-end speaker maker Klipsch Group has agreed to be purchased by New York-based Audiovox Corp. Audiovox said on Thursday it has signed a “non-binding term sheet” to acquire all of Klipsch’s shares. That's right, Audiovox, a rather large company (bigger than some might think) will soon control all of Klipsch's brands, including Jamo, Mirage, Energy and Athena. Audiovox is a leader in the automotive electronics and accessories field and even have a large presence in the consumer electonics category. Audiovox markets products under the Audiovox, RCA, Jensen, and Acoustic Research brand names.

Oppo BDP-103D Blu-ray Player with Darbee Visual Presence Review

by clint,November 04, 2013 12:05
- We first got a look at the new Oppo BDP-103D (Darbee Edition) at this year's 2013 CEDIA Expo in Denver. The 'D' stands for Darbee Visual Presence, or "DVP". This is a brand new video processing technology that enhances depth and detail by looking at the luminance information on the fly and modulating the pixels to create better contrast and definition. It doesn't affect color, and it's not a system that changes the frame rate or adds any frame interpolation. The processing delay is also very small, just a few hundred microseconds (0.300 ms). The technology works on standard definition, high-definition...even 4K, though anything at that resolution or higher may require some more robust video processing to handle the overhead.

- The format war long over, now Sony wants to expand the presence of Blu-ray. The Sony boss says it’s time to start stuffing Blu-ray players into more products, including HDTVs. The story-between-the-lines is we’re probably about to see Blu-ray players at the bottom-end of the price spectrum.

New Games at CES

- Not that we had any time to demo them, but CES 2008 had a slew of new games on display. We couldn't help but be amazed by some of the graphics. First Person Shooters seemed to dominate but RPGs, driving, and more made their presence known. Hopefully, this will be the year when we can finally stop making fun of the PS3 for its lack of games (and with MGS4 and GT5 on the way, all signs point to "yes").
