SVS Under New Ownership - Specialty Technologies, LLC
[0.24]
by clint,May 30, 2011 09:55
- SVS just announced this week that it has a new parent company is Specialty Technologies, LLC. Specialty Technologies is apparently a newly formed LLC. SVS says the new company is made up of enthusiast and CE professional partners (we're assuming some of which have some money to invest into operations, of course). The company is saying that the "new SVS" will be better equipped to manufacture new products and meet the demands of its customers. While SVS has had a reputation for impeccable customer service in the past, it has also met with limited demand. As the company grows, it's also good to have access to greater resources to support a larger consumer base. SVS says that its core team will be fully integrated with Specialty Technologies, so both value and performance shouldn't change considerably. We're also expecting that the SVS brand will stay in place, since that is what's recognized and it would make little sense to rebrand or tack on a company with zero name recognition.

Creative GigaWorks T40 Speaker System Review
[0.24]
by jclarke,July 01, 2008 11:37
- The Creative GigaWorks T40 speaker system is a great solution for people looking for an upgrade to the lousy stock speakers that came with their PC. With a street price of around $125 in many places, the GigaWorks T40 speakers deliver great sound without taking up too much space on your desktop.

Yamaha YSP-1100 Video

- Yamaha's new Digital Sound projector features 42 DSP-driven drivers that fire in waves to route sound in a way that recreates a full surround sound experience from a single enclosure. We listened to this unit and found it to provide an impressive, immersive experience that differs from anything we had witnessed before. The YSP bubble effect is like surround without speakers and is far different from other phase-based, DSP-only solutions.

Hilton Tests the Home Theater Hotel Room

- Ever wonder why you never see 5.1 systems in a hotel room. I mean, it doesn't cost much to put in even a basic system - so why not spec it into the build of a new facility? Ok, I'm "geeking out" as a certain friend of mine would say... but why not? Apparently someone at Hilton Hotels agrees with me. They've launched home theater-like "Sight+Sound Rooms" at two test-bed hotels. This includes a couple dozen guest rooms at the Hilton Chicago O'Hare International Airport and even more at the Hilton in San Francisco.

Fatman iTube Red-i Integrated Amp w/Speakers & iPod Dock Review
[0.23]
by jclarke,January 15, 2009 16:45
- The iTube Red-i from Fatman is easily the coolest docking system for iPods that I have had the pleasure of enjoying on my desk. So much more than a dock and speakers for your iPod, this system can easily be the heart of your small two channel listening setup in your home, office or apartment. If you are considering docking speaker systems for your iPod and plan to spend around $500, this is a no-brainer. For the true Audioholic, this system blows the others away. Maybe you are considering a small Bose or other "big-name" all in one speaker dock product for your den or office. I suggest you rethink your purchase.

Acoustic Research WHT6024 5.1 Wireless Speaker System Review
[0.23]
by jclarke,October 23, 2007 10:20
- One of the trends I noticed at the recent CEDIA expo in Denver was wireless speaker systems. I saw everything from a portable speaker that you might use out by the pool to systems designed to be used with traditional full-range speakers. Probably the most prevalent use of wireless in speaker systems is for rear surrounds in a 5.1 satellite speaker system. Acoustic Research has released the WHT6024, which falls into this popular category.

mStation 2.1 Stereo Tower Review
[0.23]
by clint,December 14, 2007 01:00
- It's hard to feel luke-warm about the iPod. You either hate it or love it. The hundreds of iPod-centric devices and gadgets which have hit the market in the past several years since the debut of the device has seen to that. I've seen many iPod speaker systems in my time, but none have had the sheer presence of the mStation. Far from catering to the unimposing and diminished size of the iPod, the 2.1 Stereo Tower presents itself as a domineering system that can still manage to hide itself away in a corner or against a wall without taking up too much space.

Denon AH-NC 732 Headphones Review
[0.23]
by jclarke,October 03, 2008 12:57
- The Denon AH-NC732 noise canceling headphones join a crowded category of products that frequent flyers are finding they cannot live without. It seems that only a few years ago your only choice for active noise canceling headphones was from the four-letter marketing machine, and you were paying top dollar for a mediocre product and lots of advertising. Denon took it's time entering the fray, but they have delivered some strong competition with the introduction of the AH-NC732 headphones.

Denon AVR-588 AV Receiver Review
[0.23]
by gary,January 01, 2008 20:20
- The new entry level Denon AV receiver is out and it is packed with more features than anybody has a right to expect for around $350. With plenty of connectivity options, features, and power, it’s hard to think of any reason a serious home theater enthusiast on a budget wouldn’t want to anchor their system with the AVR-588. While it is a very impressive A/V receiver, it will require some work to set it up in your theater and make full use all of its features.
