Panasonic produces several low cost home theater products and the SC-PT750 includes many features for the price. This package is very similar to its little brother, the SC-PT650, but we feel the black color matches a better with most newer flat panel displays and the wireless rear speaker receiver is included, along with slightly larger front left and right speakers. Also included is an iPod dock, remote control, and various speaker cables. If you are a first time home theater user, or just looking for a small system for a secondary TV, then this might be for you.
In some quick listening tests, we found the system to produce fairly clean vocals at moderate levels. The included sub module is fairly small, but adds a nice touch of mid-bass you certainly won't get from your television's speakers. This system will function best in smaller rooms and you can position the subwoofer for best sound in your room (we recommend keeping it towards the front). A smaller flat panel screen will benefit from the 1080p upconversion function when using an HDMI cable, and the remote control layout is easy to use and well labeled.
Please note that the included wireless module is the only way to amplify the rear speakers. In our experience, wireless speaker technologies are a little hit and miss, and the PT750 is no exception. Since it is based on the open 2.4GHz frequency, it may cause interference with other items in your home such as cordless phone and/or wireless computer networks. If this isn't a feature you will want to use, it's recommend that you check out the SC-PT650, or go for another brand of HTiB (Home Theater in a Box).
Not intending to be a movie-only system, the 5-disc changer can be used for regular CDs or play several types of computer files. Of course, the included iPod dock is compatible with many iPod types to give you the most options for your multimedia dollars. The SC-PT750 can typically be found for around 10% off the MSRP which we think is a good value, so be sure to take some tunes on your iPod into your local big box store and get a demo if this is your target price range.
