Screen Excellence launched a new value-oriented line. North American distributor, StJohn Group, announced the immediate availability of the fixed frame “Performance” Series in four sizes – 70”, 80”, 87” and 95” (width of viewing area). The Performance Series by Screen Excellence joins the company’s already established Reference fixed and motorized series and True Aspect Masking screen series and is designed from the ground up for today’s rapidly growing group of value-conscious digital home theater projectors.
Retail pricing for the 16:9 (1.78) native aspect ratio
projection screen begins at $1,630 for a 70” wide viewable area. Not the cheapest screens we've seen but definitely not the most expensive.
Much like in a commercial cinema, the Screen Excellence Performance screens allow placement of the center speaker, or all front channel speakers, behind the screen – as the director intended, the only way to create the most realistic cinematic experience by actually matching the sound to action on the screen.
All Performance Series screens are shipped with pre-cut Enlightor 2 (EN2) acoustically transparent (AT) matte white screen fabric and an integrated black backing fabric layer for mitigating light reflections behind the screen surface. The frame is a luxurious velour-coated beveled aluminum, only 3.15” wide. Installation is quick and simple. The EN2 material adds only 1.5 dB of razor-flat attenuation of the speaker's response. The AT black backing material introduces another 1.5dB of straight and level attenuation. No re-equalization is required. No audio comb filtering occurs unlike vinyl perforated or some competing woven screen materials.
