Slappa CD Cases Full Line Review

Ever have one of those hot summer days where you jump in your car, rush to turn on the air conditioner, fire up your audio system to get your mind off the heat only to find your CD storage case plastic pouches have glued skin tight to your CDs? I certainly can recall more than one instance of this and I have the smudged Pat Metheny CDs to prove it. I remember saying to myself - why can't someone design a better CD storage case? Well thankfully they did, and that someone is Slappa.

13"(w)x12.25"(h)x5.05"(d)
Price: $49.99

Features

  • Sturdy Shell Case
  • Rubber zipper handle for easy usability
  • Brushed Steel Spine Handle with ID Label Holder
  • Outer plastic sleeve for CD labels
  • Inner cloth holding pouch for storing the CD/DVD
  • Camel, Black, Graphite or Blue finishes
  • Storage for up to 240 CDs

The CD 240 is Slappa's largest CD storage case. It 1 ft^2 footprint may be too large for easy portability in the car but will serve all of your home theater needs and save considerable space when compared to CD storage towers. Capable of storing 120 CDs and cases, or 240 CDs and no cases, a couple of these gems will likely contain your entire collection and keep them safe from environmental influences.

Dimensions: 13"(w)x12.25"(h)x3"(d)

Price: $35.99

Features

  • Sturdy Shell Case
  • Rubber zipper handle for easy usability
  • Brushed Steel Spine Handle with ID Label Holder
  • Outer plastic sleeve for CD labels
  • Inner cloth holding pouch for storing the CD/DVD
  • Camel, Black, Graphite or Blue finishes
  • Storage for up to 160 CDs

The Slappa CD 160 was just the right CD storage case suited for my portable needs for music on the go. It was big enough to store a majority of my favorite CDs while not being too bulky to be stowed away under the front seat of my car or behind my couch in my home theater room. The build quality and attention to detail of this storage case is most impressive. Factor in the price of this case and you must take a hard long look at why you would alternatively buy one of those flimsy CD storage cases with plastic sleeving from your local mass market retail chain stores.

The CD-160 has the ability to store 80 CDs and CD labels or 160 CDs with no labels. One caution when using the plastic sleeving for storing CDs rather than labels is the sticking effect I have found when CD cases have been left in a hot car for long periods of time. The front insert of the CD 160 has a big pouch for you to place papers, or other personal items.

7.5"(w)x12"(h)x3"(d)
Price: $25.99

Features

  • Outer plastic sleeve for CD labels

  • Storage for up to 80 CDs

The CD 80 is the smaller sibling to the CD 160 ideally suited for side door stow away in cars or on the go CD storage portability. It has all of the basic features of the CD 160 but in a package of about 1/2 of the width and storage capability. It was a synch to load up CDs and their associated labels into the CD 80 storage case.

Best things come in small packages or so the saying goes. The CD 40 provides the ultimate in CD storage portability in a package size just a little bit bigger and at about the cost of a CD. It is the ideal size for airplane travel or bringing your favorite tunes to the beach or summer picnic.

The Score Card

The scoring below is based on each piece of equipment doing the duty it is designed for. The numbers are weighed heavily with respect to the individual cost of each unit, thus giving a rating roughly equal to:

Performance × Price Factor/Value = Rating

If you notice better performing products in future reviews that have lower numbers in certain areas, be aware that the value factor is most likely the culprit.
