Michael Bay wins the Format War
Thank you Michael Bay for providing me with an endless source of of podcasting and editorial material. Apparently Mr. Bay is taking credit (at least in part) for the imminent demise of HD DVD. “Blu-ray’s better, and I told everyone,” Bay said at the Visual Effects
Society’s sixth annual award show, where he presented the award for animated
character in a motion picture. “I was very vocal about it. I knew HD [DVD] was
not going to make it.” Wow, did you tell the sun to rise this morning too or did that happen just because the sun knew you needed your morning lens flare to get the day going?
While Mr. Bay has been a vocal (if technically clueless) supporter of Blu-ray, I seriously doubt that his threat of withholding Transformers 2 was the deciding factor in the high def war. Of course, Mr. Bay hasn't always been so unidimensional of his Blu-ray support. After his rant against HD DVD, he went back and adjusted his post saying that HD DVD was good too. Way to waffle, son.
There was a good piece of news out of all this though - the original masters of Armageddon were destroyed in a fire. Bay says he'll have to remaster them from scratch. While I'm sure there will be 3x's the amount of lens flare, perhaps he could add a Transformer or two seeing that they were barely in their own movie.
